Yesterday I was up early and off to Torbay to photograph the 2019 Donut Dualthon held at the Velopark in Paignton. March can often be a hit & miss affair with the weather but there was certainly no prayers needed to the weather gods as the day was glorious. Having photographed this event before, I had an idea of how the event was to pan out so after a few ‘warm up’ shots, off the start they went. First up was the kids race (Mini Duathlon, Tristar Start and Tristar’s 1 & 2). I learnt from last year that you blink and the race is over. These kids are super fast so I had to plan where to position myself at allocated time slots to capture all the action. Before long, it’s over and the presentation is underway. A few snaps showing off the medals and the next race is off!
This time it’s the turn of the adults (Tristar 3, Go Tri/Supersprint & Sprint). Initially when the safety briefing was given, I sized up the group and thought it seemed similar to last year but once they lined up on the start and streamlined themselves through the first bend, I could see the increased popularity of the sport. There were lots of athletes! Brilliant I though. Lots of images to take!
Having sussed some prime spots from the kids events, I knew where to get the best shots without being too far away from the action. I like to get a few different shots to mix up the collection for my client. Images involving close ups, motion blur, dutch angles as well as using telephoto and wide lens make for a varied catalogue of images.
After an hour or so, the first finishers started coming through so multi tasking with the cycling element and finish shots at the same time kept me on my toes!
Before I knew it, it was back to the presentation shots before heading home to start the hard work!
Check out my sport Gallery for some more images from the event.
